About Us

The position is funded by the DFG (the German Research Foundation) through the Collaborative Research Center 1333 "Molecular Heterogeneous Catalysis in Confined Geometries". The CRC 1333 is an interdisciplinary research center at the University of Stuttgart with 16 individual research projects involving also external partners at the Max-Planck Institute for Solid State Research and at the Universities of Paderborn, Marburg and Bochum.
More than 50 researchers from 19 groups collaborate to acquire the fundamental understanding of how confinement can synergistically support catalytic reactions with molecular catalysts within small mesopores. This involves the challenging tasks of analyzing and quantifying how specific pore properties influence properties such as reactivity and diffusivity and which are the underlying mechanisms. Finally, we aim to develop hybrid catalyst systems that enable more efficient chemical-catalytic production processes or even open completely new reaction pathways.
For this, we require the concerted effort of researchers from catalysis, materials sciences, analytical sciences and theory.

Your Tasks

As a Research Software Engineer, you will develop a research data management infrastructure, which enables FAIR data principles in molecular heterogeneous catalysis by (1) implementing existing and developing novel tools for data acquisition, (2) implementing existing standardized data exchange formats and, if necessary, developing novel standards for yet missing data in molecular heterogeneous catalysis, (3) implementing and developing application programming interfaces for the integration of tools, (4) implementing existing and developing novel tools for data analysis, (5) developing and applying workflows for data processing, and (6) developing an interface to our local Dataverse platform.
Therefore, you will tightly collaborate with the project leaders and doctoral researchers for the design and development of tools and their application in realistic scenarios, with other data infrastructure projects at the University of Stuttgart, and with national and international partners.

Your Profile

The Research Software Engineer has a degree in chemistry, physics, or simulation technology, with experience in research data management, programming, and data science. Successful candidates should be curiosity-driven, ambitious, creative, and passionate about interdisciplinary research in the area of molecular heterogeneous catalysis (catalysis, materials science, analytical chemistry, theory, and simulation science). Strong team working and communication skills, aptitude for independent and creative work, as well as fluent English written and presentation skills are essential.
