About Us
 

The newly created Züblin endowed Chair of Digital Transformation in Construction is integrated in the Institute of Construction Management (IBL). The Chair holder Jun.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. Kepa Iturralde has been working in Digitalization, Automation and Robotics of Construction in the last 11 years, and has worked in several European Research Projects such as BERTIM, HEPHAESTUS and ENSNARE. The Chair is dynamic and is collaborating with other Institutes of the University of Stuttgart as well as other German and International Research universities. Apart from the main funding body (Züblin), the Chair has participated in various research proposals. The position will include resources for training and development.

  
 
Your Tasks
 

The first objective of this position is to develop Artificial Intelligence for the Built Environment and recognize existing built environments and ongoing construction elements by using images and the information in OSM or GIS. After recognizing these elements a 3D model should be generated by using .json files and generate .ifc models. These models need to be fully integrated for after processing, such as, construction site management, energy calculation of existing buildings or pathology recognition of built infrastructure. The PhD candidate will collaborate with different agents to check the interoperability of the generated models. Apart from this first objective, the PhD candidate will need to enhance the use of AI in the Built Environment.
 

 

 

 
 
Your Profile
 

Suitable candidates possess a M.Sc. in engineering, computer science or similar. Previous experience in the field of Artificial Intelligence and Built Environment is requested. Additionally, candidates should have excellent writing skills. Fluency in English is required; command of German is required. Very Active support of and participation at the Chair and the Institute is expected.

 
Your Benefits
 

Remuneration is based on the TV-L E13 75 or 100% depending on the capabilities of the PhD. The first contract duration is 3.25 years, extendable if necessary. The earliest possible starting date is September 1st, 2024, but it can be earlier if all parts agree.
